Compignano is a beautiful estate located on a southwest slope in the foothills of the Apuan Alps overlooking the sea to the west and Pisa to the south. The ancient six acre farm, terraced with olives, figs, and fruit trees, is within the woodlands of a national park. It is secluded and exceptionally attractive. The entry to the large stone farmhouse and the barn, situated at the centre of the estate, is down a private road. The main building is now divided in two totally independent parts sharing, together with the barn, a 6x12 metres swimming pool on its own protected terrace, a short distance from the houses. The three of them have been designed in a way that each property keeps its own privacy and independence. Compignano West has been recently bought by a London-based couple who use it as a summer residence and rents it in other periods. They took great care in refurbishing it, with particular attention to the kitchen and bathrooms, all newly renovated in marble. The original Tuscan character has been kept, with beams, terracotta floors and an ancient carved stone fireplace, yet it has been furnished in a comfortable contemporary style.
