About Basque Country
The Basque country is situated in the easternmost part of the Cantabrian coast bordering on France. Bilbao and San Sebastian are the two most important cities. Bilbao, the industrial and financial capital of the country, is also home to the world famous Guggenheim Museum designed by Frank Gehry. The museum, set on the river in the middle of Bilbao, is built of titanium and glass. Then there is the lovely San Sebastian, a modern and elegant seaside city that has one of the most beautiful settings in the world. The Basque country has a green countryside dotted with homes that remind one more of the Swiss Alps then the rugged image of Spain. The Basques possess a culture that is rich in folklore and they are know for their extraordinary food. Basque cooking is considered to be the best in Spain and the Basques like to think the best in Europe.
