About Venice and Environs
Venice, the refined and romantic city, offers a unique and special atmosphere. Venice was built on a series of low mud banks in the tidal waters of the Adriatic and has been subject to floods. The traveller can walk undisturbed or take a gondola to discover every enchanting angle, every unique bridge and hidden treasure. St. Mark's, built on a Greek cross plan and five huge domes, is one of the famous sites in Venice. This city has changed very little in 200 years and the Gondolas and their boatmen are the sounds of the city. Fish and meat are popular in this region and polenta is the popular along with the famous Asiago Cheese. Bardolino, Valpolicella and Soave are the well known wines of the region.
