Green Spain/North West Spain

Green Spain includes the provinces of Asturias, Cantabria and Galicia, all located in north and northwest Spain. Cantabria, famous for beautiful coast lines is anchored in the north by the beautiful city of Santandar. Also famous in Cantabria is the National Histoic Artistic complex of Santillana del Mar. The entire town is a national monument and living museum of a medieval 9th century village. Four miles away are the famous Caves of Altamira, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Asturias is a land of imposing mountains where rivers flow to the sea forming beautiful river valleys. The irregular coastline is about 190 miles offering over one hundred sand beaches to enjoy. Finally, Galicia, located in the northwest corner of the Iberian peninsula has many estuaries, islands and beaches and is surrounded by mountains. Galicia is divided into four provinces and is the home of the famous Santiago de Compestela Cathedral where people come from France and Spain to make a pilgrimage to this world famous church.
