Liguria

Liguria, or the Italian Riviera, is filled with romantic fishing villages, rock cliffs, sandy beaches and winding coastline that stretches from the French border to San Remo, the town familiar to movie-goers as the background area for movies about spies and sports car racing. It was one of the favorite visited spots by the poets Shelly and Byron, and the novelists, Katherine Mansfield, George Sand and D H Lawrence. For years this was the winter retreat of the wealthy due to the pleasant client of 50 degrees. Genoa which divides the Riveria into two parts is the capital of the Ligurian region and is a big bustling port city. Also very famous on this coast is the "Pearl of the Riveria," Portofino, a resort that is popular with the rich and famous.
