Loire Valley

The Loire Valley is known as the Cradle of the French Language and the Garden of France for its extremely productive land. Indeed the words Loire and chateau are practically synonymous. Even the word chateau: part fortress, part palace, part mansion has no true English equivalent. There are chateaux in every region of France, but nowhere are they found clustered as thickly as in the Loire Valley. A fairy-tale realm par excellence, the valley is studded with storybook castles strung across the countryside like strands of pearls. With magic at every curve in the road, this noteworthy area still creates fascination throughout the world.
